Donington Gardens, Independent Living
41 Independent Living Units and Community Centre for Bankstown City Aged Care. Completed November 2014.
Bankstown City Aged Care’s new development, Donington Gardens, is located in Georges Hall on one the last remaining vacant lots of land originally given to Matthew Flinders. The facility is named after his birthplace of Donington in Lincolnshire, England.
The development provides an opportunity for residents to down size while still maintaining their independence. There are six buildings housing 41 independent living units of both two-bedroom and two-bedroom plus study, and a community room for functions and gatherings. All units are single storey, set within a two-storey design that is accessed by lifts or stairs.
The design incorporates cross flow ventilation to the living areas and bedrooms while maintaining large open spaces for the residents. The car park is located below ground to ensure the landscaped area is maximised including a succulent garden. The exterior of the building is a bag and paint finish to the brickwork and then lightweight cladding with Colorbond roofing and rainwater tanks.
