Meet The Team

The Calderflower team is comprised of Architecture and Interior Design experts with a passion for forward-thinking and liveable designs. The significant wealth of knowledge and experience in our office represents the foundation for new and progressive thinking. We strive constantly to challenge the conventions and traditional methodologies to achieve optimal outcomes for our clients. Our team has a proven track record of delivering services and accommodation for a wide range of clients with the successful delivery of thousands of care beds and hundreds of residential units.

Matthew Reid Lead Interior Designer

Matthew Reid Lead Interior Designer

Matthew has a career in the Interior Design industry for more than 30 years and worked on a diverse range of projects both locally and internationally. Over the years he has been involved in residential, multi residential, retail, commercial and hospitality projects and brings an incredible depth of knowledge to the Calderflower team. Passionate about shaping interiors that enrich people’s life and pays particular attention to every detail from the initial project brief through the many project stages. He executes smart and innovative layouts and material selections, which consider both functionality as well as visual and aesthetic comfort of a space. He is a strong advocate for the importance of design and architecture at any scale and enjoys working closely with clients throughout all phases of the design process to achieve the Clients brief.

Rachael Brennan Senior Interior Designer

Rachael Brennan is an accomplished Interior Designer with a keen eye for detail and a passion for creating spaces that blend functionality with aesthetic appeal. With a strong background in space planning, concept design, mood and finishes boards, drafting, and 3D modeling. Rachael thrives in fast-paced environments, having successfully delivered Quick Service Restaurant fitouts under tight design and construction timelines. Her adaptability, efficiency, and problem-solving skills make her a valuable asset in any design team. Proficient in industry-leading software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Enscape, and ArchiCAD, Rachael continually seeks to expand her technical knowledge to stay ahead of design trends. Beyond her technical skills, Rachael excels in collaboration—working closely with colleagues, suppliers, and builders to bring creative visions to life. Her leadership and communication skills enable her to translate client needs into thoughtfully designed spaces that inspire and enhance everyday experiences. Rachael’s commitment to excellence and passion for interior design drive her to deliver innovative solutions that transform interiors into remarkable environments.

Eva Affolter Interior Designer

Eva is an interior designer passionate about sustainability, accessibility and how good design can enrich people in all walks of life. She aims to focus on the person she is designing for, and work outwards from there. Eva has previously worked and studied overseas, exploring vernacular design in Italy and Switzerland working on multi storey residential apartments and independent living units. Since joining Calderflower in 2020, she has been involved in single and multi storey aged care homes, residential projects and disability accommodation, such as Fresh Hope Communities’ Green Hills in East Maitland, BaptistCare Elderslie, Opal Glenmore Park, a private residence in North Turramurra and Currajong’s disability services apartments in Parkes.

Mia Millard Graduate Interior Designer

Mia is an Interior Design graduate with a strong foundation in commercial and residential interior design and a passion for creating thoughtful, client-focused spaces.

With a keen eye for detail and a solid grounding in design principles, Mia brings a balance of creativity and technical proficiency to her work. She is highly motivated, eager to learn, and quick to adapt, with strong skills in documentation, 3D modelling, and visual communication.

Through her experience in customer success roles and her current internship and mentoring program, Mia has developed a client-centric approach, excelling at building rapport, translating client needs into actionable design solutions, and contributing effectively within collaborative team environments.

Mia is seeking to continue developing her skills within a dynamic interior design practice, where she can contribute meaningfully while growing as a Junior Interior Designer.

Architecture Team

Lara Calder Managing Director

Lara is a Registered Architect, Registered Design Practitioner, the managing director and nominated Architect of Calder Flower Architects in Sydney. Dealing with the challenges of a commercial practice and striving for quality in the built environment means having to adapt to the changes in society, the economy, innovation, and sustainable technologies with a commercial perspective. Lara does this by seeking out opportunities to extend thinking and test ideas. As an office, we participate in competitions and explore new technologies and software to remain at the forefront of innovative thinking and adaptive systems. Lara and the Calderflower team share a genuine passion for providing design excellence in the Seniors Living and Community Housing sectors. Good Architecture should serve a practical purpose but that can ultimately make the mundane special and the special unique. Reg. No 6955 NSW

Bradley Wahl Associate

Bradley is a senior member of the Calderflower team and has more than 25 years of architectural experience across a diverse range of small to large scale residential projects both in Australia and overseas. He is particularly experienced at delivering documentation for complex and large building projects, utilising his skills in Building Information Modeling and his years of experience in the construction industry. He possesses all-round architectural skills enabling him to run projects from the conceptual stage through to completion and has a keen interest in and understanding of sustainable architecture as well as prefabricated and off- site construction techniques. To compliment his work in seniors living, Bradley has decades of experience in residential design and documentation ranging from individual terrace buildings & townhouses to large scale multi residential buildings.

Polly Jankov Associate

Polly is an associate and project architect at Calderflower, and has a significant wealth of knowledge and experience in the aged care sector. She strongly believes in the creation of purposeful architecture that benefits the users that experience it on a daily basis and has a positive impact on society. Prior to joining Calder Flower, Polly worked as a heritage architect, and on high-end residential projects across Sydney. Polly is a great collaborator and an excellent communicator, with a passion for exceptional design and planning, with a particular focus on sustainability and loves a creative challenge. Her experience at Calderflower has seen her involved on numerous large scale aged care projects, SDA housing and retirement living.

Martin McCarthy Associate

Martin has spent more than 40 years working as an Architect in New Zealand, Japan and Australia. His diverse career has seen him working on a variety of residential typologies with a particular interest in how these buildings respond to their context. Martin has expertise in the science of building fabric, and its implications for sustainability.

For the last fifteen years, Martin has worked on Australian residential settings for the community’s vulnerable aged living, group homes, and community housing, which has heightened his ability to deliver universal design solutions.

Recent example projects where Martin was a key member include Fresh Hope Communities\ Maitland, Southern Cross Care North Turramurra, Southern Cross Care Thornton Park Residential Apartments, Chinese Australia Services Society Group Home, Currajong Disability Services, Residential Apartments.

Manuela Doebelin Senior Architect

Manu is a registered architect with over 20 years experience leading and delivering complex projects across all stages — from concept to completion.

Manuela brings to seniors living and aged care the rigour of two decades across high-end residential, education, and hospitality architecture — precision in detailing, deep knowledge of the NSW planning framework, and a strong sustainability lens.

Since joining Calderflower she has contributed to masterplanning for large scale seniors living redevelopments, SSDA preparation, and documentation across aged care projects in NSW.

Manuela manages the full scope of architectural services within her project teams — leading design development, coordinating consultant groups, managing client relationships, and driving projects through approval and delivery stages. She is a Registered Architect, NSW APE Assessor, and past juror for the AIA NSW Architecture Awards.

Melissa Lentz Team Leader

Melissa is an internationally qualified Project Leader with over 15 years’ experience delivering complex projects across Australia, Europe and Africa.

Her experience spans residential, commercial, retail, industrial, healthcare, education and defence sectors.

She leads projects across all stages, from early briefing and concept design through to documentation, procurement, and construction, with a strong focus on technical quality and delivery.

Melissa is an effective communicator and leader, experienced in managing multidisciplinary consultant teams, coordinating stakeholders and building strong client and contractor relationships.

She has extensive experience navigating approvals, technical compliance and quality assurance processes, including engagement with authorities and government design panels.

With a strong commitment to sustainable design, Melissa is a Certified Passive House Designer and brings a rigorous, performance-led approach to architecture. She brings to Calderflower a calm, collaborative leadership style and a strong focus on quality outcomes.

Perry Cheang Architectural Graduate & BIM Technician

Perry is particularly interested to designing accessible, sustainable, and affordable spaces in the aged care sector. With a diverse portfolio that includes social housing, small residential projects, and residential care facilities. His expertise in 3D digital visualizations and graphics significantly enhances the quality and appeal of his projects. Driven by passion and a keen eye for both functionality and aesthetics, Perry strives to create spaces and buildings that are not only practical but also visually pleasing. Perry contributed to the NSW Seniors Housing Design Guide by providing detailed diagrams and graphics, demonstrating his commitment to excellence and innovation in graphic design.

Manmeet Thandhi Architectural Graduate

Manmeet Thandhi Architectural GraduateManmeet is a graduate architect with a strong curiosity for sustainable and innovative design. With a keen eye for detail and a passion for problem-solving, Manmeet thrives in collaborative environments, tackling complex design challenges with creativity and precision. Proficient in Revit, ArchiCAD, AutoCAD, Rhino, SketchUp, and the Adobe Creative Suite, along with rendering tools such as Vray, Lumion, and Enscape, Manmeet brings a versatile technical skill set to every project. Committed to continuous learning and growth, Manmeet is dedicated to crafting thoughtful, functional, and meaningful spaces that leave a lasting impact.

Ruby Tao Architectural Graduate

Ruby Tao Architectural GraduateRuby is an architectural graduate with a deep passion for how design shapes society and communities.
