Pinocchio Children’s Library

The story of Pinocchio comes to life from the pages of the book into a real world of storytelling, constructing a library that is woven from the pages of life-size books. Giant plywood silhouette cutouts of figures and characters articulate the place-making of nooks and shelving in a forest of fantasy and imagination.

The library offers a selection of ‘chambers’ – divided more by the silhouette shapes, colour, floor level and pattern than by walls and enclosure. The spaces are full of variety and character. The individual identity of each reading space or workshop makes it possible to ‘journey’ through the whole building experiencing different scenes in no specific order or sequence. In this way the journey is never the same, maintaining an element of surprise and mystery.
