Tokyo 2010 Fashion Museum in Omotesando Street

Fashion is dynamic. Fashion continually evolves. The Fashion Museum’s purpose is to capture this movement without losing the excitement.

The design provides a display for the city and of the city. The exhibition spaces are configured to use the city as the backdrop to the fashion. The loose plan allows the visitor to browse the displays as if they were viewing the clothing on the street.

The building consists of a concrete structural system and a double-skinned facade of glazing and metal fabric. The metal fabric sails around the building layering depth, controlling the light and providing an adaptive colour scale. The three storey volume of the entrance hall addresses Omotesando with style and grace. The transparency of the building develops a dialogue between the spaces and the street.
